What does the loaded chamber indicator on Taurus pistols do?
WHAT DOES THE LOADED CHAMBER INDICATOR ON TAURUS PISTOLS DO?
Safety first is the motto of every law-abiding gun owner. With that in mind, Taurus provides a Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI) on majority of our models. As with all Taurus safety and security innovations, the indicator in no way interferes with the operation of your pistol and is provided at no extra cost but allows you to verify with your finger or "at-a-glance," that there is a round in the chamber. When a round is in the chamber, the loaded chamber indicator pops out of the slide. While having a loaded chamber indicator is no substitute for common sense and safe firearm handling, it is one more example of Taurus' commitment to outstanding firearm safety. Do not rely on the loaded chamber indicator or any other safety device. Always clear any pistol by removing the magazine, pulling the slide back and visually confirming the chamber is empty. Always remember to "open and show clear."
What is the Taurus Security System?
The Taurus Security System renders the firearm inoperable by use of a special key. For those with concerns about unauthorized use of their Taurus firearm, the integral Taurus Security System provides an additional measure of assurance. All Taurus firearms include either the Taurus integral security system or an appropriate external locking mechanism.
TAURUS MILLENNIUM SECURITY SYSTEM
The Taurus Millennium family of semi-auto pistols features the Taurus Security System, which provides instant-ready defense with built-in ability to secure your pistol and make it inoperable at the turn of a key. When the Security System is engaged, the Millennium cannot be fired, cocked, or disassembled, and the gun's manual safety cannot be disengaged. As with our revolver Security System, the device is part of the firearm and cannot be lost, and the same special Security Key works for both the revolver and pistol systems (two keys come with each new gun).
TAURUS PISTOL SECURITY SYSTEM
This innovative and patented system is now on the complete line of Taurus pistols. Just like the revolver version, a quarter turn of the key locks the action, preventing the hammer and trigger from moving, and prohibits racking of the slide. Just a quarter turn of the key returns the gun to complete readiness. The Taurus Security System is always included at no additional cost.
TAURUS LONG GUN SECURITY SYSTEM
All Taurus Long Guns carry the Taurus Security System. On the pump action guns, the system operates in the same way the revolver system does. On our semi-automatic rifles, the system locks the bolt and firing pin with a turn of the special key. The Taurus Security System is always included at no additional cost and 2 keys come with each new gun.
Can I dry fire my Taurus?
Yes, except for the .22 caliber pistols. .22 caliber revolvers such as models 94 and 941 also should not be dry fired. This does not include the TaurusTX™ 22 because it is designed to be dry fire safe.
Can the 455 Tracker(45ACP) shoot 45 Auto Rim?
No. This was designed to shoot 45ACP ammo only with the Stellar Clips.
Can you tell me the date my firearm was manufactured if I give you the serial number?
General serial number information can be found by clicking here.
How can I get an instruction manual for my gun?
Taurus instruction manuals for both currently produced and out-of-production models can be downloaded directly from this website by clicking here.
How does the Taurus Three-Position Safety Work?
The ambidextrous Three-position safety is offered in a couple of our models. It's easily operated and provided at no additional charge. Depress with your thumb and safely drop the hammer or striker to de-cock the pistol. The safety returns to the OFF position, ready for double action shooting.
Why can't I dry fire my .22 pistol or revolver?
Dry firing a Taurus .22 pistol or revolver will cause damage to the firing pin. This does not include the TaurusTX™ 22 because it is designed to be dry fire safe.
How do I ship my gun to the Service Department for service/repair?
Click here for shipping instructions. Note that custom gunsmithing is not available from Taurus.
How do you engage/disengage the Taurus Revolver Security System?
ENGAGEMENT (Secure) Insert the key into the mechanism and turn clockwise until a click is felt or heard. The mechanism now partially protrudes above the surface of frame or hammer. The action is locked in place and cannot function. DISENGAGEMENT (Ready-to-Fire) To place the revolver in a firing condition, insert the key into the mechanism and turn it counter-clockwise. The mechanism is now virtually flush with the surface. The revolver can now be fired.
Why do you recommend not shooting reloaded ammunition?
Death, serious injury, and damage can result from improper ammunition; bore obstructions, powder overloads, or incorrect cartridge components. Even the strongest gun can be blown up by excess pressure. Only use factory new ammunition loaded to SAAMI (Sporting Arms Ammunition Manufacturing Institute) guidelines. Always wear shooting glasses and hearing protectors. Using improper ammunition may damage your firearm. We specifically disclaim responsibility for any damage or injury whatsoever occurring in connection with, or as a result of, the use in any Taurus firearms of faulty, or non-standard, or 'remanufactured' or hand-loaded (reloaded) ammunition, or of cartridges other than those for which the firearm was originally chambered.
AMMUNITION INFORMATION
A firearm and ammunition are a system. Their performance is closely related.
You are responsible for selecting ammunition that meets industry standards and is appropriate for this firearm. Use ONLY commercially manufactured ammunition with internal ballistic pressures which are in strict accordance with the specifications of the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute. NEVER use non-standard, reloaded, or "handloaded" ammunition which has not been subjected to internal ballistic pressure testing.
Ammunition, especially reloaded or handloaded ammunition, may have many manufacturing and quality variables (such as type and amount of gun powder). Any ammunition that is improperly manufactured, even the slightest degree, may fail to fire or may generate excessive internal pressures which can damage or even rupture the firearm, causing personal injury to the shooter or those in the immediate vicinity.
Use only ammunition specifically recommended by Taurus for your firearm. NEVER mix ammunition.
AMMUNITION MANUFACTURERS
Use only commercially manufactured ammunition with internal ballistic pressures which are in strict accordance with the specifications of the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI).
Be certain all ammunition you use complies with the SAAMI specifications. If you are uncertain, contact your ammunition supplier for verification.
